In The Last of Us Part 1, workbenches are a crucial element for upgrading your weapons and gear. They help you with a variety of upgrades such as reducing weapon recoil, increasing magazine size, and improving gear durability. These upgrades greatly increase your survivability. Therefore, finding all the workbenches becomes essential to enhance your weapons and gear to their maximum potential.

As Joel, Ellie, and Tess are chased by a group of runners, they will enter a garage to buy some time. This garage is in the basement of a museum that you will have to clear as part of the story. Before heading off to explore the garage, you will want to go around the parked truck and head to the left corner of the room to find the first workbench in the game.

As you accompany Bill through his town in search of a car, you will eventually reach a church near the graveyard. After successfully defeating or sneaking past any infected in the area, you will follow Bill to his safe house. This location also has a workbench to upgrade your gear.

After taking out the hunters and entering a building containing dead hunter victims, exit through the stairway door and go up to the second floor. Follow the hallway to the metal door on your right to find the third workbench.

During the Hotel Lobby segment of the Pittsburgh chapter, Joel must pass through the hotel's basement. The place is teeming with infected. After turning on the generator, you will have access to the hotel stairs. Take the stairs and go up to the second floor. As you enter the hallway, you will find two open doors. The workbench is located in the room to your left.

In the Financial District segment, as you reach the garage, Ellie will help Joel pass through the garage door by propping a green table under the door. You can prop the same table against the wall with yellow taping. Climb up on the table and through the opening to find the workbench to your right.

After Joel and the crew exit the sewers in the Suburbs chapter, they will reach a residential area with many houses to explore. As you follow the main streets, keep an eye out for an open garage on your left with a wrecked blue pick-up truck outside. Enter the garage to find the workbench.

After Tommy takes Joel on a tour around the hydroelectric dam, the brothers will eventually reach the control room. The workbench is to the left of the control room. Make sure that you utilize this workbench for any upgrades before speaking with Tommy again. It will become unavailable to use later.

The first workbench in this chapter is not very far from the start. Progress normally until you pass through the open metal gate. To your right will be a loading bay with a forklift in the middle. The workbench is located to the left of the forklift.

As you progress through the chapter, you will come across a building with a busted wall. Climb up the wall to enter a laboratory. While still in the laboratory, go left into the adjacent room to find the ninth workbench.

After meeting the giraffes, exit the building and make your way to the Fedra camp. The area is dotted with several tents, but keep an eye out for the one on the right side of the tower. Once you locate it, step inside, and you'll find the essential workbench.

While progressing through the tunnel, Joel will have to cross a metal gate. Once you enter through the gate, climb a short flight of stairs and look to your right to find the final workbench tucked away in the corner.

Finding and interacting with all 11 workbenches in the game unlocks the "Prepared for the Worst" trophy.
