Toorak mansions with European flair add Parisian panache to Melbourne market’s top end

26A Linlithgow Rd, Toorak, is one of two European-esque houses for sale in the suburb.

Two Toorak mansions are bringing a très chic touch to the market — including a house with features inspired by Paris’ Petit Palais museum.

Constructed from hand-cut limestone, the 3 Torresdale Rd home is on the market with a $9.2m-$10.1m asking range.

Designed by architect Phillip Mannerheim, the three-bedroom property boasts French oak chevron floors, French gutter cornices and handmade European doors.

Marshall White Stonnington director Justin Long said the geometrical staircase's

wrought iron balustrade and formal dining room were inspired by the Petit Palais, which the home's architect and builder both loved.

Built for the 1900 for the Exposition Universelle, the grand museum facing the Seine now houses the City of Paris Museum of Fine Arts.

The Toorak house's other highlights include a four-car garage with an automatic turntable, a solar heated self-cleaning swimming pool and an outdoor kitchen with a built-in bar, barbecue and wine fridge.

The home theatre contains a 2000-starlight ceiling and the climate-controlled wine cellar is capable of storing 440 bottles.

"This home has been incredibly detailed and been finished to a very high quality," Mr Long said.

Less than 2km away, a six-bedroom mansion at 26A Linlithgow Rd is for sale with a

$18.8m-$20.6m asking price.

Set on 1400sq m, the home has a tennis court, pool, four bathrooms, four-car garage and a with topiary similar to the greenery commonly seen at European country estates.

Famous landscape designer Paul Bangay, architect Nicholas Day and the late interior designer Stuart Rattle all worked on the house across a two-year rebuild project.

Forbes Global Properties director Michael Gibson said the owners were downsizing after more than 20 years at the "quite beautiful" home.

"One of the most beautiful aspects is the privacy and tranquillity you get, you also get beautiful views over Kooyong and Hawthorn," Mr Gibson said.

"Sitting outside in the gardens with a Campari spritz is something you would regularly do at this time of year."

He said the dining and formal rooms made the mansion "an entertainer's house".

"You could have amazing dinner parties and could easily host 150 people downstairs without feeling crowded," Mr Gibson added.

Expressions of interest in the property will close at 5pm on March 8.
